Rain Elizabeth Stickney: Mindfulness in the classroom and other tools

What do we do if we ask for help and the person we ask does nothing?

Activities to use this podcast in your language classes:

  1. Rain talks about not getting hep for the abuse she was experiencing in her household growing up. Set up imaginary but realistic situations with your students and ask them to write down possible solutions and options they could pursue to resolve the situation. Have a class discussion to share group conclusions. Share possible solutions from different organisations. (Possible resource.)
  2. Rain lists specific techniques teachers can use in the classroom to help students to become more aware of their bodies and emotions. Listen to the podcast with your students, ask your students to list them, see if they come to an agreement about the number of suggestions Rain gives, and then try one every day.
  3. One suggestion Rain gies us is to bring nature into the classroom. Let the students listen to the ideas Rain and I share towards the end of the episode and then, n groups, they make a list of other ways nature can become a part of their classroom.
