Leesa guided her daughter through a bilingual experience for her 12 years before university. You’re going to hear how Leesa and her husband, both graduates of the four top schools in the country (Standford, Columbia Harvard and Yale) – and admit that having those. names on their CVS have served both of them very well, they believe in whatever higher education is suitable for each person and that community colleges are usually wholly undervalued and gave their son a phenomenal education. Leesa and her husband model exploration for their two children, not only placing high importance on languages, taking them all over the world to learn about people and places experientially, all the while navigating their specific needs in and out of the classroom.
Raising and schooling a son with Aspergers was not easy 30 years ago and still isn’t easy and you’ll hear ways Leesa found to be proactive in an absolutely positive way so that teachers and administrators wanted to work with her. She’s going to share ways that she used the resources available in her city and country for her special needs son, and how all of her dedication helped him become a productive and independent adult, living on his own, when that is not often the case even within high-functioning autism children in their adult years.
