Scaffolding Challenging Terms and Academic Language

This FREE scaffolding technique help students bridge gaps so that they can engage in challenging units with more ease. It integrates images and linguistics giving students support in different learning styles. They learn the parameters of a term experientially, using vocabulary that is provided, discerning differences in images and paying close attention to details in the information given. Critical thinking, multiple possibilities for recognising truths, and verbalisation will engage your students in a powerful collaborative activity towards new knowledge.

This scaffold was created for a fantastic Phenomenon-Based Learning project about connifers and flowering plants. The Final Task has to do with making the conclusions about these plants visible through an esoteric art form called POLYPYTCH. You’ll see images of different types of Polypytchs in the preview gallery. First, your student work together to get to know the concept of polypytchs, and then they get to work creating one!
