Step by step: CLIL VISUAL MEMORY

  1. From a text that you are going to use (the example here is given from a Cambridge Proficiency exam about Food and Restaurants), choose a few sentences and find corresponding images. Underline the most challenging words in the texts.
  2. Cut up the text and images and give students either one of each or a text or an image.
  3. Students walk around the room with their images/text and without showing what they have, they have to determine who has the corresponding text or image. This means that they need to describe the image they are holding with as much detail as possible and/or read the text they are holding so the other person can determine whether they have the corresponding image. Whether the person they are speaking with has or doesn’t have the corresponding image, they still need to give a synonym (and/or translation) for any. underlined words in the text.
  4. Once two students find the image to the text, they sit down together to continue the activity – reading the text and completing any other part of the exercise.
