May 23 – International Turtle Day.  Go ahead and laugh aloud. As educators, we can see the humour in most things. Then keep reading. The more we know about this celebration of these amazing creatures, the more we realise that the day gives us the opportunity to focus on how we treat all beings on the Earth. If your thoughts turn – most aptly – to the famous children´s book Yertle the Turtle, you´ll also have the opportunity to delve more into the life of its author, Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss), who was not just a writer of children´s books, but a profound philosopher and advocate for critical thinking on all levels.

This scaffold celebrates amphibians, critical thinking, philosophy, literature  and politics. It can be used as an introduction to a project-based lesson on social sciences (political theories), and citizenship.
