Writing is often the most difficult skill for English learners to master. The difficulty lies not only in generating and organising ideas, but also in translating these ideas into readable text. The basic steps are: planning, drafting, revising, and editing. You can use this technique with any video; however, this activity takes advantage of the celebration of Halloween to help students visualise and organise the story more easily, through different intelligences. (You can include a history element to the activity by including the origins of this celebration as a Pagan ritual.)

With this scaffold, you´ll be giving your students images from the Halloween video Stitches, and letting them write an original script. This technique gives them the opportunity to be creative and have the freedom to write whatever they imagine. You’ll have many surprise stories and laughs when you´re sharing them. Afterwards, you´ll all watch the video and you can further the activity by asking them to vote on the most original script, scariest, strangest, most nonsensical, etc. stories presented.
